The concept is simple; Take a dream, any idea you once had that relates to prevention, identification, analysis, or mitigation of cyber-attacks and make it a reality.
Most of us are wired to always run ideas in the back of our mind, ones we would like to experiment with and implement. However, we often lack the time, knowledge, resources, man power, decisional power, etc. G33kW33k's goal is to take a few days away from our regular work environment and try to implement those innovative ideas. Through its database and other systems, CCIRC will provide access to millions of samples of spam emails, malware, and analysis reports.
We select multiple participants, and then split them into groups based on their project idea and skills.
CCIRC suggests projects, but would ultimately like to see participants come up with their own ideas and requirements. This would help us better serve you, and increase the impact of our joint efforts. For those of you who are able to participate, you will be asked for project ideas in the near future.
Each participant will be required to bring their own laptops to use for G33kw33k. If requested in advance with a convincing reason, CCIRC can accommodate a very small number of participants and provide a workstation for you.
If you do not have a specific project idea, but a general area of interest, we will attempt to place you in an appropriate team to help others with their projects.
G33kW33k is a nine (9) consecutive day event, starting Thursday October 20 and ending Friday, October 28. We ask participants from the Ottawa region to come before the start of the event to reduce the load of the setup process on the first morning. For attendees traveling to Ottawa, the preceding Wednesday evening is the designated time to come in and do the initial set-up.
Most of Friday will be dedicated to presentations where each team will expose their findings, results and conclusions. If any of your colleagues (i.e.: manager, executives) would like to attend the presentations, please let us know and we will try to accommodate.
